A Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) holder has fallen victim to a phishing attack, losing three rare NFTs valued at approximately $167,500 (56 Ether).
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT identified the suspicious transaction, which saw the three Bored Ape NFTs transferred from the wallet “tatis.eth” to an address flagged by Etherscan as a known phishing wallet.
The specific method of the attack remains unclear. However, experts believe the culprit likely used a “wallet drainer-as-a-service” like Pink Drainer. Phishing scams in the crypto space often involve imitating legitimate accounts or websites associated with popular projects like BAYC. These scams aim to trick users into connecting their wallets to fraudulent platforms with the promise of rewards.
In some cases, attackers target specific wallets known to hold valuable NFTs or large amounts of cryptocurrency. Once a victim connects their wallet to a drainer, the attacker can steal the connected assets.
The stolen Bored Ape NFTs, identified by #7531, #6736, and #2100, possess rare traits according to OpenSea, a popular NFT marketplace. These traits include white fur (found in only 4% of BAYC apes), a small grin (3%), and a “Bored Pizza” (exclusive to just 0.5% of the collection).
