!XRP Ledger Releases v3.3.0, Opens Voting on Six Amendments
- RippleX has rolled out XRPL v3.3.0 and validators have started reviewing six proposed amendments.
- The release introduces Confidential Transfer, a built-in privacy feature for certain token transactions on the XRP Ledger.
- The update also adds batch settlement and role-based access controls aimed at institutional users.
RippleX has released XRPL v3.3.0, the latest version of the XRP Ledger’s core software, and validators have begun voting on six amendments bundled with the update.
The centerpiece is the Confidential Transfer amendment, the first privacy tool built directly into the XRPL protocol rather than added through a third-party layer. It encrypts balances and transfer amounts for Multi-Purpose Tokens, meaning transaction sizes and account holdings tied to MPTs can be hidden from public view on-chain.
XRPL Foundation representative Vet described the release as a significant step for the network, calling it a move toward institutional trading and infrastructure optimization.
What the Other Amendments Do
Confidential Transfer doesn’t touch XRP balances, NFTs, or standard IOUs directly, and selective disclosure remains available so issuers can still show transaction details to regulators or auditors when required. That distinction matters for how the feature is likely to be used. It’s built for tokenized assets moving through institutional workflows, not for obscuring ordinary XRP holdings.
The update bundles five other proposed changes alongside it. RippleX head of product Jazzi Cooper has said batch settlement, allowing institutions to bundle multiple transactions into a single atomic operation, is likely to have the clearest near-term impact for banks and asset issuers already building on the ledger. Role-based access controls round out the institutional-facing side of the release, giving organizations finer control over who within their systems can execute which transactions.
How Amendments Actually Activate
None of these six changes take effect automatically. XRPL amendments require approval from a supermajority of trusted validators before they activate on the network, which takes anywhere from weeks to months depending on how quickly validator operators review and vote. The ledger’s most recent cleanup amendment, which activated in late July, needed 30 of 35 trusted validators to sign off before taking effect.
For now, v3.3.0 is live and voting is open. Whether any of these six amendments actually activates, and when, depends entirely on validator consensus that hasn’t happened yet.
