Frequently asked questions

Is Gate.io safe?
Gate.io has operated since 2013 without a major consumer-fund security incident (it did have a small 2015 incident during its early Bter.com era, well before rebranding). It publishes Proof of Reserves and maintains hot-wallet insurance. Regulatorily, it's less protected than tier-1 exchanges. For long-term holdings, hardware wallet.
Can US customers use Gate.io?
No. Gate.io restricted US retail access years ago. Some Gate.io-branded services have separately targeted the US at various times; verify current status before signing up. Attempting VPN circumvention violates ToS.
What is GT (GateToken)?
GT is Gate.io's native exchange token. Utilities: 25% discount on trading fees when paid in GT (→ 0.15% effective from 0.20% base), Startup Program participation (new token distributions), VIP tier boosts, various platform perks. Similar model to BNB/OKB/KCS but with a smaller ecosystem.
Gate.io vs MEXC vs KuCoin for altcoin selection?
All three offer wide selections. Gate.io: 2,000+ pairs. MEXC: 1,700+. KuCoin: 800+. MEXC has 0% maker fees (best for market makers). Gate.io has Startup Program (early access to new listings). KuCoin has KCS revenue-share (holders receive share of trading fees). Different edges — pick based on your specific needs.
