David Hirsch, the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit, has announced his departure from the agency.
Hirsch, who joined the SEC as a staff attorney in 2015, made the announcement on LinkedIn, reflecting on his nearly nine years of service. He expressed pride in the accomplishments of the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit, crediting his success to his colleagues and partners across various regulatory and law enforcement agencies.
“This past Friday was my last day with the SEC after almost 9 years. During that time I had the opportunity to work on more complex, challenging investigations and issues than I ever imagined when I joined the agency as a staff attorney in the Fort Worth Regional Office. I’m particularly proud of the historic work done by the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit team I had the privilege to lead,” David Hirsch wrote in his parting LinkedIn Post.
While acknowledging the difficulty of leaving, Hirsch expressed excitement for new challenges. He plans to take a break before announcing his next move, focusing on travel with his family before his son heads to college.
Hirsch served as an enforcement attorney for the SEC for over eight years before leading the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit from October 2022. His departure marks a shift in leadership for the SEC’s crypto regulation efforts.
