Fairshake, a United States-based super political action committee (PAC) advocating for cryptocurrency interests, has received a $25-million donation from Ripple. This makes Fairshake the wealthiest nonpartisan super PAC in the 2024 election cycle, ranking third overall with reported fundraising ranging between $102 million and $110 million.
Ripple’s latest contribution follows a previous $25-million donation in 2023. Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, emphasized the significance of these contributions, stating, “Our support for Fairshake reflects Ripple’s commitment to actively engage in educating voters about the future role of cryptocurrency and the risks associated with anti-crypto policies advocated by some policymakers in Washington.”
Fairshake positions itself as a supporter of candidates dedicated to fostering innovation within the United States, particularly in shaping the future of the internet. However, its strong inclination towards crypto advocacy is evident from its list of contributors, which includes prominent figures from the cryptocurrency sphere.
Notable contributors to Fairshake, as reported by Open Secrets (data yet to be updated to include Ripple’s latest donation), include former Bitfinex executive Phil Potter, Fred Ersham and Matt Huang of Paradigm, Wences Casares of Xapo Bank, executives from Electric Capital, Lightspark Group backed by a16z, and Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest.
Fairshake’s political endeavors have reportedly supported candidates such as Patrick McHenry, Dusty Johnson, and Wiley Nickel, while actively opposing California progressive Katie Porter.
