Jesse Powell, co-founder of the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, has announced a $1 million donation to support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. A significant portion of the contribution is made in ether (ETH).
In a statement shared on his official X account, Powell expressed enthusiasm about aligning with other leaders within the cryptocurrency community to endorse the only major party candidate in the 2024 Presidential election who champions crypto interests.
Trump’s campaign has increasingly positioned itself as favorable to the cryptocurrency sector. Recently, Trump declared his openness to accepting donations in cryptocurrencies and emphasized the importance of fostering domestic production of Bitcoin, advocating for the United States to assert leadership in the crypto industry. Despite these statements, the Trump campaign has yet to detail specific policy proposals regarding cryptocurrencies.
Notably, discussions around cryptocurrencies were absent during the first presidential debate held yesterday, despite concerted efforts by the crypto community to push the issue onto the agenda.
Powell joins a cadre of prominent figures from the cryptocurrency sphere who have backed Trump’s bid for re-election. The Winklevoss twins, founders of the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange, previously announced million-dollar donations to Trump’s campaign. However, some funds were reportedly returned to comply with legal limits on political contributions.
