Aptos, a blockchain platform developed by former Facebook employees, achieved a new milestone on May 25. It processed a staggering 115.4 million transactions in a single day, significantly surpassing Solana’s 31.7 million transactions. This shatters the previous record for a Layer 1 blockchain, previously held by Sui Network with 65 million transactions.
Aptos also hit an all-time high of 32,000 transactions per second (TPS), showcasing increased activity within its ecosystem. This surge is attributed to the launch of Tapos Cat, a popular play-to-earn game.
Tapos Cat allows users to earn rewards by interacting with a virtual cat. The game’s design encourages frequent transactions, and it offered gas-fee-free participation for its initial launch, further boosting activity.
Despite the high volume, Aptos maintained stable gas fees and transaction success rates. This is credited to the platform’s Aggregator feature, which processes transactions simultaneously.
While some experts question the long-term value of Tapos Cat, Aptos supporters view it as a crucial test of the network’s scalability and a foundation for future development. Aptos Labs recently appointed new advisors and partnered with South Korean telecom giant SK Telecom for a Web3 wallet service.
